Immediate past Vice-Chair of Executive Board of International Press Institute (IPI- www.freemedia.at). He was the Member of the Executive Board of IPI for two terms which ends 2017.
Monjurul Ahsan Bulbul choosen as the Chairman of the jury board of UNESCO/ Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize for 2013. This selection was made by the Director General of UNESCO Irina Bokova. This is the highest media related award in the Globe. Previously He served as member of Jury board for three years.
His previous professional experiences include working for the country’s oldest newspaper - the Daily Sangbad, the Daily Jugantor, ATN Bangla Television, and Boishakhi Television. Over his more than three decades practical experience in print and electronic media journalism, Bulbul has earned a number of awards and honors home and abroad.
Monjurul Ahsan Bulbul began working for The Daily Sangbad, the oldest and most respected daily in Bangladesh, in 1987. From 1987-2000, he worked as sub-editor, National desk editor and news editor. In 2000, he left The Daily Sangbad to start a news daily Jugantor, now the country’s one of the largest-circulation Newspaper, where he was its Founder News Editor.
He left Jugantor in 2001 to become Chief News Editor - CNE of the country’s first private Terrestrial television channel- Ekushey Television-ETV. At Ekushey Television, he was a Regular presenter of several talk shows and news programme, including ’Ajker Patrikay’, ’Samprotik’, and ’Eai Saptaher Bisshwa’. During the 2001 national Elections, he presented the live programme, ’Jati Jante Chai’ (The Nation Wants to Know), and the 48-hour live broadcast of the election results, ’Jonotar Rai’ (Peoples Verdict).
After ETV closed, Monjurul Ahsan Bulbul joined The Daily Sangbad as Executive editor. He is also served as Head of news and current affairs, NCA at ATN Bangla, the country’s first satellite television channel, where he anchors the popular talk shows, ’Meet the Press’ and ’Mukto Sanglap’. In 2008 national election he was the lead Anchor for LIVE program in ATN Bangla. He then promoted as the Editor in Chief in ATN Bangla.
He is the President of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists-BFUJ. [This is for third term, before he was the secretary General and treasurer]
He is the Member of the Bangladesh Press Council
He is the Senator of the Dhaka University Senate for two terms.
He served as the Senior Vice President of national Press Club.
He served as the Director of the Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) for three terms.
He served as the Director at the Board of Director of Bangladesh Open University.
He is former Executive Director of Media Watch (a Bangladeshi organization defending press freedom). Currently Chairman, Media Watch, Bangladesh.
He is a part time teacher in the Department of Mass Communication & Journalism at Dhaka University and at the American International University of Bangladesh (AIUB).
He is regular guest lecturer at National Defence college, Bangladesh, Staff College, Police staff College.
He is a reputed journalism trainer home and abroad.
He campaigned widely for freedom of expression and a fight to abolish the culture of impunity at the national and international levels.
He was the member of entourage of HE Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to Commonwealth Summit, Perth, Australia. GIRLs Summit UK and state Visit to UAE.
He was elected at International Federation of Freedom of Expression- IFEX council in 2001, at the AGM held in Bangkok. Again he elected 2017 at IFEX GM held in Montreal, CANADA in last June.
